Starting from the fact that chalcones are suitable for various transformations, we synthesized different chalcones and chalcone analogues that have vanillin in their structure. These compounds often represent the core structure of many natural products. They are very good starting substrates for the preparation of novel azaheterocycles. As such, we used them to synthesize a series of pyrazoline and pyrimidine derivatives in high yields. Some of them showed very good antimicrobial activity, while others passed as useful antitumor agents with expressed cytotoxic activity against tested cancer cell lines. Most importantly, all the new compounds had no toxic effect on a non-cancerous cell line (MRC-5). In continuation of our investigation into the synthesis of different biologically active compounds, we decided to include one of the very useful compounds in organometallic chemistry, ferrocene. A series of ferrocenyl chalcones and ferrocenyl chalcone analogues were obtained, and these products were used in various types of reactions in order to synthesize new azaheterocycles (pyrazolines, oxazoles, pyrimidines, and diazepam derivatives).
